wrong on so many levels

i just read something on yahoo that upset me! the publisher of mark twain's huckleberry finn wants to reprint the book minus two words. one word is "injun" referring to native americans. the other word is the "N" word. they are going to replace the "N" word with the word "slave." the article did not say what they were going to replace the word "injun" with. i'm appalled, to say the least.

i do not like the "N" word. i won't say it. hell, i won't even type it here. it's a bad word. a very negative word. but it was used back then (in Twain's time). i feel that twain should not be censored, especially after the book has been published so many times in so many different languages. it is a classic, and classics should not be messed with.

i am not condoning the use of that word, but it things were different in the 1800s when it was written. i feel that it would be inappropriate for an author to write a book now (unless it is historical fiction/nonfiction) with the "N" word in it. but when you talk about a book that was written a long time ago, allowances have to be made.

basically, i feel that people just need to get over themselves and leave things alone. it may be an awful word, but they need to look at the context and time period that it was used in. people worry too much about how everyone else is feeling instead of what is right. censorship is wrong!

(sorry if this post doesn't make much sense. i'm on cold meds)
