crowd funding site for master class

http://igg.me/at/writeinNYC/x/10556666

check out the link.  i applied for a master class in NYC and was accepted!  i didn't think i'd get accepted, but i did.  now what?  if i can't raise money quickly, then i can't go.  maybe when you're broke and don't have money for things you're supposed stop wanting things.  but i want to write and publish my work.  maybe, if i can do that, i won't be broke anymore.  why should dreams stop when you're down on your luck?

where i've been, where i am, where i'm going (an update)

hello loyal blog readers who have stuck with me!  i know it's been a while... life has been crazy busy.  things are so hectic that i am sometimes confused about what day/time it is.

where i've been:

* i started working regularly at soma again in january.  my schedule was to close on fridays and open on sundays.  it was nice having all of saturday off to get things done, but it was still exhausting.  things are good there. i've still got it.  i went from #11 one week to #1 two weeks in a row!  i totally rocked it out these last couple of weeks!  makes me feel good.

* i've been drowning in literary theory... i am retaking the class (i failed it last term).  it is SO hard and SO boring.  i have done my best to keep up and try to learn something.  i can't say that i've learned much, but i am ready for next term and fiction fundamentals.

* i've been somewhat depressed and very tired.  when i get home at night, i just want to lay here and watch TV.  this is making it difficult to get homework done.  i just feel exhausted.

where i am:

* i am once again leaving soma (temporarily??).  i got a job at a tutoring company that has me working on getting their curriculum together.  i will also tutor.  right now i am getting 7 hours a week.  it pays more than soma and i don't have to spend so much time on my feet.

* i am single and ok with it.  i was seeing this guy for a few weeks.  we went on four dates, but he turned out to be a lying bastard.  that can be a whole post in and of itself, but i will say that i'm proud of myself for not putting up with bullshit so i won't be lonely.  maybe i'm just meant to be single...

* i have not been writing much.  i am really trying to fix that.  being in fiction fundamentals next term will help since i have to write for class.  i just want to get in the habit of writing every day.

where i'm going:

of course, i have no fucking clue where i am going.  it is always changing.  i don't know what door will open next.  i am still working to get the hours needed to teach community college english.  i need 18 to start applying for jobs.  i have 6.  i'll get there--just need to be patient with time.

i have been applying for jobs like crazy because i don't plan to return to this school next year.  even if i did plan on going back, i need  something for june-august because this job does not pay during the summer.  i had a great video conference interview for a job in huntsville.  wouldn't it be funny if i ended up back there?  it's for a community coordinator at an apartment complex that is low income housing.  it pays just about what i make now, but the cost of living is cheaper in huntsville.  i'm not so sure about options for school for alex, but i'm taking it one step at a time.  i'm working on other jobs in houston as well.  no way are all my eggs going in one basket.

* i am signed up for two writing retreats for this summer.  one is a private retreat in boulder (i was supposed to go in february, but my job messed that all up).  the other is a retreat in west texas.  i am excited about both! :)

**just a short update on me.  i'm going to try to start posting weekly again!

doing the RIGHT thing!

i usually have a difficult time making decisions.  mostly because i don't want to do the wrong thing.  what's wrong?  well how will other people view this decision.  if it's something i want to do, then why would i be the one to think it is wrong?  i worry about how people will judge me.  i worry about how i will look.  should that matter?  shouldn't i do what i believe is right for me and then live with it?  if that is what we're supposed to do, why do we always seek out advice from others?

so my mind is swirling with two different decisions right now.  one is something i have to decide soon (like by the end of this month).  the other is something i will have to decide within the next few months (before summer).

i worry about doing the wrong thing, mostly with the first one.  i want to take a private writing retreat in boulder.  i have found airfare (haven't purchased) and lodging.  i have the dates lined up with the guy who runs the retreats.  the thing is, money is tight.  VERY tight.  like i said in my resolutions post, i really have to make some changes with how i spend my money.  i have to be less impulsive (i've been thinking about this since november--is that impulsive?).  i need to learn to tell myself no (i can justify so many reasons to go).  the money would be coming from my financial aid and/or my income tax return.  i look at this as extra money.  the whole trip will cost around $1,000.  i don't think that is a lot for what i should be getting out of it.  some people may think it's a poor decision because i should be saving every single penny that comes my way.  i agree.  i can save MOST of my financial aid.  i should be able to treat myself to something, right?

the second decision has to do with a job.  i was offered my job back at camperoo for the same money i am making at the school.  i feel very special that they really want me back.  there are so many pros and cons to this.  the good would be less stress, not taking work home, i would have more time for graduate school, and shorter commute.  the negatives would be alex couldn't go to school for free (i couldn't bring him to this school, so i'd have to pay tuition) and i wouldn't have paid holidays.  i would also miss my kids.  there are other perks to going back to work at camperoo.  i could hide in my cubicle when i didn't want to deal with people.  i could take longer lunches and visit with friends.

so what should i do?  i don't think i'm soliciting advice.  well, maybe i am.  i am wondering if i should go for this boulder trip.  i am wondering if they want to renew my contract here for next year.  if they want me here, i should probably stay here so alex can go to school here and i can stay with the students i enjoy.  i really hate making decisions!
