i just got home from a date. i have to say this is one of the best dates i have had in a long time. the guy didn't try to sleep with me first thing. in fact he was a total gentleman. i didn't even know guys this nice still existed in 2011 (or i thought the ones that did exist were all taken).
first a little background: last saturday (july 2nd) i went to a party at rhonda's to celebrate the 4th. i got there late (close to six) because i had to work. everyone was pretty wasted when i got there, which was funny for me. well not everyone, but a lot of people were. it was silly. anyway, i was sitting on the couch talking with angelica when this guy came in and started talking to angelica's husband and well, us too. when we went outside he came too and sat with me on a beer cooler and we talked for a long time. we talked about lots of things: my writing, my job, why i don't like teaching (the politics), alex. we talked a little about him, but he kept wanting to know about me. well he was very interested in my writing so i gave him a card with my blog (not this one, the writing one) address on it. i told him to check out my writing and let me know what he thinks. we emailed back and forth during the week some. last nite (saturday) i got an email asking if he could call the number that was on the card i gave him. i said sure!
so we talked and he asked me out to dinner and a movie for sunday (today). i accepted. he seemed nice enough and he was really easy to talk to at the party. i got all excited and nervous. i had a date with someone who had already met me and talked to me. of course i had to try on several outfits last night before settling on one of my maxi dresses (and i'm glad i did).
he called this morning to confirm and firm up plans. we were going to see horrible bosses around 4pm and then go to dinner at escalantes (he wanted me to choose the restaurant). so i got there early (would rather be early than late) and waited for him. he got there shortly after me (also early based on the time we agreed on). he was dressed nice--slacks and a button down shirt. i am so glad i decided against capris and flip-flops. he had bought the tickets ahead of time so we went in and talked before the movie. he is very easy to talk to. the movie was hilarious! you should go see it if you weren't planning on it. you will laugh a lot.
anyway, then we went to dinner. he ordered us wine and then told the waiter what i would have (i chose it, but i don't think i've ever had a guy order for me). we talked a lot. i learned more about him. he asked me if i had a nice time. i told him yes. he said he did too. he asked what i was doing next weekend. i had to tell him i have alex next weekend (i just found out that i have to take alex for one weekend during wayne's month). i kinda hated saying no because he was fun to be around. hopefully he'll want to see me bad enough to wait a couple of weeks...
it was just refreshing to go out with someone of the opposite gender who did not express that he wanted to have sex with me and that didn't just want to talk about himself. he seemed like he was interested in what i had to say. i would definitely like to see him again!
