i'm going about this all wrong

i went to my therapist yesterday and we talked about my life. her outlook is that i'm doing well. for the most part, i agree. we talked about me dating and about the date i had last Friday. we went out to dinner and a movie. i had a lot of fun. i laughed a lot, which i needed to do. it was nice to be out with someone and have a good time. the thing is--i don't think it'll go anywhere. he doesn't seem ambitious enough for me. he's a nice guy and all, but i need someone who is driven and focused in life. this guy doesn't seem to be (he does hold down a job and support his 2 kids, but i like ambition).

in discussing this with my therapist i realized i'm going about this whole dating thing the wrong way. i'm looking for "the one" and i'm ready to throw anyone out who doesn't seem to fit into my (somewhat warped) picture of perfection. she said i should be living in the present and enjoying these times. i don't have to fall in love and i don't have to rush into bed (i knew the 2nd one).

so, i'm going to see this guy again. he's fun to talk to and he makes me laugh. that is enough for now (i guess)--wait! that sounds like i'm settling--is that what i'm doing? i SO hate the dating scene!

on a side note--but still in the "love and relationships" category--yesterday woulda been the 3 year anniversary of my first date with brett. last year i got roses and lilies. this year--well of course nothing--we're not together. i was sad yesterday and it was kinda a hard day, but i made it through... i guess time really does help heal all wounds...
