the school i work at runs summer camps. there is an art camp, a sports camp, and a computer camp. our head of school called for proposals a couple of weeks ago. i turned one in for a two-week creative writing camp. i've set it up to include 2 field trips so we can incorporate nature and art with writing. i'm going to have the kids explore the genres of memoir, poetry, and short fiction. i'm going to do lots of writing exercises with the kids and have them keep a writer's notebook.
i found out this morning that my proposal was accepted, and i will be running this camp in june. i get to hire staff and do all the things that go with running a camp. i'm SO excited about this! not only will i get experience with writing with children and running a camp, i'll make about as much money as i would working all summer at a day camp. this is awesome because i'll only have to work for two weeks and have the whole month of july off! :)
