what is a community builder?

good morning readers!  so happy you stopped by life, love, & butterflies today.  today i'm talking about my job.  mostly because i've been promising and also because i had a special request on facebook.

my official title is community builder.  sounds fun, doesn't it?

i work for an online marketplace.  we're like expedia, but for parents to find camps and activities.  we're not just a directory. we're a one stop shop for parents to discover, plan, and book camps and activities for their children.  it is totally free for parents to use.  we make all our money from the camps.

cool concept, huh?

so what do i do?  it is my job to "build" a relationship with camps so we can connect them with the parents who are looking for camps in the area. most of my day is spent calling camp directors, setting up demos, and sending emails.  in basic terms, it's sales, but i look at it as more than that.  i really get to know some of these camp directors and make a connection with them.  i believe in our company and make them believe in it too.

it's free for a camp to be included in our marketplace.  we just take a small commission if we send them a paid registration.  it's actually a good deal for a camp.  free marketing!  plus we're taking a risk that the parent will book through our site.  they may not.  they may call the camp directly.  i go through all these scenarios with the camp director.

anyway, i've been here since february.  i've brought several camps on board in that time.  i'm being successful and that makes me feel good about myself.  not every call is a good call--i get some very rude people--but the nice ones over shadow that.

if you have questions, comment or send me an email.  this post is just the basics of what i do.

i'm leaving you with a picture of what a community builder looks like at a launch party:
