i seem to have a very serious problem--one that may require an intervention or 800 number. i can't stop shopping. it's gotten worse since my income has dropped to nearly nothing with the whole quitting teaching thing. every time i get a little bit of money i feel i have to spend it. it's insane. why is this? why am i compulsively shopping?
don't worry, bills are paid first, but instead of saving the money i buy stuff (clothes, fast food, music on iTunes). i think i have always lived way beyond my means. i don't know why. i just don't like to want things, i want to have them. i don't know how to save money. well i take that back---i used to be really good at saving money. when i was a teenager i would save allowances and babysitting money to buy clothes and things i really wanted to have. i remember putting clothes on lay-a-way at palais royal and making hard earned payments. (they should never have done away with lay-a-way--great concept!)
i just don't know how to get this impulsive spending under control. i need to save money for emergencies. you know how much is in my savings account? $1. yeah...
